I am a middle aged male who has been taking percecet for about 7 years total of which the last 3 have been pretty hard core......Average day is about 60-80mg of perks and recently been doing some oxycontin but cut that out about 2 weeks ago so down to about 6-8 10mg perks aday. There is no way for me to quit cold turkey so I have done some researching and chose to go on SUBOXONE.

In fact I just got home from my 1st appointment about an hour ago and plan to finish off the remaining percecet I have and start the suboxone on Friday.
I am completly scared out of my mind though for the last at least 3-4 years I wake up and take a perk, I have them with me all day long, all night long....I guess I took the first step and that is admitting I have a problem and than the second step is I went to get help now the biggest step of all is actually doing it...SO

Can anyone provide me with any information as to how their suboxone treatment has gone...When is the best time I should take it, how much I should actually take compared to what my doctor prescribed...I hear this stuff is very very potent..

Can I drink alcohol on it? Any information you can provide along with any motivation or support would be great...I want to thank you in advance for your reply...

This comment alone makes me wonder...if you are truly commmitted to getting off the drugs, then you will need to comply EXACTLY with the doctors instructions. Anything else is continuing the self-medicating cycle.
This is your first post and I certainly do not want to come across as judgmental or to scare you away. To the contrary. I wish you all the best in your endeavor. Like you said, the first step is admitting you have a problem. You have gone to a doctor to get help. That is commendable. But you must listen to exactly what the doctor gives you for instructions.

Suboxone can be a wonderful drug to help someone get off other drugs...but remeraber...suboxone IS another opiate. Some Sub doctors want their patients to stay on a suboxone maintenance program for up to a year or more. This is simply trading one addiction for another. If you are only on the sub for a couplke weeks to help you get off the percocet, then kudos to you. Just be very careful with the sub...as you yourself said, it is very potent stuff.

I wish you the best.

Hello and welcome to the boarRAB. This is a wonderful place to share support with some really amazing people.

While I do a fair amount of posting on the other boarRAB; I mainly "lurk" here and don't post much. However, this thread caught my eye.

I can't stress enough that Lou is exactly right....It is critical that you follow your Doctor's orders 100% to a T. Sub is a wonderful med that works very well when taken as directed. Your Doc should have given you very specific instructions on when to start, how to start and etc. If you are not 100% sure, then you need to re-visit with him/her.

Take care, and best of luck to you in this endeavor. Congratulations on having the courage to fight your addiction. You will feel so much better once you get the percs out of your system and start the Subs. I recommend using the "search" feature and read past threaRAB, as there is a lot of very valuable information on this site.

Thanks guys I appeciate it and what I meant is I got prescribed 2 8mg pills aday. I just think that is alot talking to some people....The doctor told me to take 1 8mg pill about 12-24hrs after my last dose of percecet once the withdraws set in...Than take more if needed. I am wondering if I even need 8mgs I was thinking about just taking a half first seein how it goes and than go from there...but I guess I will follow the doctor for sure and take the whole pill and than a the other one if needed....

I am actually so committed to this just very scared thats all.....Again thanks to both of you for posting it means alot.....

Please take what your Doc told you to take. He/she is the expert in addiction, and you can't go by what other people say, or what other people had happened to them. These Sub Docs go through extensive training and they have conversion tables they use....Take what he gave you. If you don't take enough, then you may have bad WRAB, and you don't want that.

Best of luck to you.

you should follow your doctor's orders with this medicine! You have taken the first step and you should be commended on that and if you follow through and do exactly as he says, you CAN get your life back on track! Good Luck to you!
