Ceili?? No I've not. I had to google it! Never hearing of the term before.

The closest I can match this would be a square dance. I remember seeing these as a child at our local recreation hall. I was thoroughly amused at the odd way the men and women were dressed; especially the women in their big bouncy skirts.

It sounds like it would be a lot of fun, but if there is lots of drinking I'm sure it would be even funnier as I could imagine loads of people falling down and getting out of step, or ending up with the wrong dancing partner:lol:

French Canadian tradition includes not so much a "barn dance' of sorts. Loads of festivals for all kinds of events, but nothing resembling a Ceili as part of the mainstream. Commonly we just eat, drink, get loaded and go home!!
