My low beam headlight stopped working. Tried to replace the bulb but it's an HID D2R which is a pricy part ($120-130 a bulb; depending where you shop). I called Acura the guy said it could either be the inverter or bulb. He said for them to check it its $110, for 1 bulb $120, for the assembly piece not including the bulb $200; all that is not including labor. I told him it was too pricy. He gave me his # and told me to call him later that day that he might be able to help me away from the shop. I called and he went to my house; he really didn't do much but look it over with a flashlight and ask who was home; kinda freaked me out.
A couple weeks pass and I call him to see if it was the parts he could help me with or the installation. He then told me to go to the dealership and he'll check it for free. I went and he told to play along as if we were cousins. I left my car so he could check and let me know what parts I actually needed. I went back an hour later he gave me a print out saying I needed the inverter and assembly piece. I asked what about the bulb...he said don't worry that he had one for me. He gave me a price between $500-700.

Again I needed more $$. I wanted a 2nd opinion cause I am a female tend to get bs’d a lot.

I took it to a friend of mine that is a mechanic. He took my car apart he was tripping out cause the high beam bulb was loose and the screws were missing from the low beam. 1st he wanted to see if the bulb actually worked, when he pulled it out there wasn’t a bulb.
He asked if I ever had a bulb (YES) and who it was that touched my car (ACURA).

He put a temp bulb (so I won’t be driving w/1 headlight) that is not an HID and it works.

So if the bulb he put in works why wouldn’t my bulb work? The guys from Acura said I didn’t need a bulb just the inverter and assembly piece.

My question is…how do I go about presenting this to Acura? Apparently the guys from Acura kept my bulb. Don’t really know why…maybe to make some extra cash or they thought I was going to go back their without getting a 2nd opinion.

I feel like they tried to take advantage of me because I am female; I want to get to the bottom of this and get my car taken care of.

Do I go and present this to Acura? Should my mechanic friend? What info should I tell them? Who should I talk to? What should I take?

Please help
