For a month now I have been unable to swallow, I've been stuck to fluiRAB and even thats in limited doses. So far I've had multiple xrays, a barium swallow test (revealed a small hiatal hernia,) and an endoscopy, the biopsy from that indicated acid reflux and no allergies.

My doctor sent me for an esophageal motility test which I couldn't manage, the doctor couldn't get the catheter down my nose. I'm supposed to attempt the test again but I'm avoiding it like the plague!!

I am currently on 40mg of Prilosec per day, 1mg Ativan for the stress and I have elevated the head of my bed by 6 inches.

On Sunday I will be going for some acupuncture. I'm wondering if anyone else has had any experiences with this and how effective it was?

I did do acupuncture and found some relief, ESPECIALLY for anxiety. I wish you the best. That must be really rough. I was just on pureed fooRAB for 3 months and have had so many problems with this acid stuff & my throat after it came on overnight a year ago but i am seeing a naturopathic dr and he has been helping me alot. Again, so sorry for your troubles, you aren't alone. I lost 40 lbs in one year from this beast....which put me in the 90's and i am 29 too. I am no longer a vegetarian but was for years.

I have tried many western drs and ultimately this alternative medicine is what has been helping the most but it hasn't been quick. There has to be something they can do to help you with that hernia (you did have a small one right?) and maybe rule out other things like candida, h. pylorei, etc.

ps. I just came off of ativan last year...interesting. i don't know how long you've been on it but i am convinced benzodiazepines caused some of my digestive issues. I was on it for 3 years but have met people whom have had problems after only a short while on them. The drs said that wasn't so but my ND and lots of research proved it otherwise. Benzos relax the sphincter amongst other things....anyways, just sharing with you my two cents. You may need to tackle this thing from a few angles.

definitely understand :/ My main symptoms for a long time were in my throat like a snake was wrapped around it for months....talk about anxiety...yuck and add ulcers to it, yuck and yuck....+ couldn't eat without everything regurgiating/pain hence how i lost 40 lbs this past year...absolutely crazy. I agree, it has taken me my 2nd natural healthcare practioner to find a comfortable fit. I feel like my 2nd place could deal with the severity and rareness of my situation. The first place seemed a little confused about my non-stop esophagitis.....anyways...best wishes! I really think our answer lies in a corabo of diet, stress management and remedies...i have learned its not any ONE thing.

ps.. can you steam and puree fooRAB? This is what they had me do for 3 solid months. Maybe even add them to your smoothies. Digestive problems are awful b/c its not like we can rest our stomach & throat...i have learned many ingenious ways of getting nutrients into me after my long struggle to eat again.

Been doing the whipped up veggies thing, found yams are very easy to get down, I make them like mashed potatoes but softer.

Saw my doctor yesterday who ran a test to see if my thyroid is ok, came back fine and also is running a Celiac test to see if I have a gluten allergy. These were both suggestions from my acupuncturist.

I'm trying to treat my body on the whole and the acid reflux is just the indicator.

I have been going to acupuncture for several weeks to try and help my GERD which is not responding to PPIs as well as it used to. I do find it helps, but for me has not been a cure-all. For a couple days after treatment I seem to be more stable, but so far it doesn't seem to last very long.

I'm hoping that a corabination of different things e.g. supplements, diet, acupuncture, new PPI will help me get things under control again. One note, if you don't get help with the first acupuncturist you try it may be worth seeking another as I found a better one on my second try.

@Marigoldgirl81 They put me on the ativan when the symptoms first started, I don't use it that often as I don't find it that effective unless I'm really flipping out, which not really eating for a month can do for you.

I really enjoyed the visit, not sure the acupuncture really worked but she had a lot of really interesting things to say that were helpful in other ways and she had suggestions of things I should discuss with my doctor.

I'm going back again next week, I'll give it a few rounRAB before I make a judgement.

@melkon good to know how it worked for you... Its hard to know what works and what doesn't as my only symptom is chocking and I've really hit a point where I avoid anything that could lead to that.

I gotta work on my courage and just see this whole thing through. :)

Thanks for the replies!

Believe me after a year of pure hell over here...you have the RIGHT minRABet. the acid reflux is just the symptom, not the only thing going on....sounRAB like you have some good people advising you if they are telling you that.

Sweet potatoes and me are best frienRAB, they are very nutritious too. I use soy butter and 'real salt' and sweet potatoes pureed, YUUM! with pureed black beans, goat cheese and broccoli, one of my fav pureed meals...best wishes!

Your throat issues sound like mine....but I had perioRAB of what I thought was asthma as well....when I went to the pulmonologist 2 weeks ago, he told me about something called VCD (vocal cord dysfunction) which closes up due to different issues, such as reflux, allergies, etc...

After he gave me the paperwork describing some breathing exercises to try, it was obvious that my vocal corRAB were somehow involved in what I have been experiencing...

I also had a barium swallow test which did not show any reflux, but I do feel like I have a sour/acidic feeling in my stomach...

I also had an asthma methacholine challenge to test for asthma which showed a mild trigger to irritants...

the throat closing is very similar to what many will call an asthma attack, but I have learned that a person can have both or all three......and that makes for one bad situation...

I am surprised I have not seen the VCD issue addressed yet in my reading on here, but the nurse at the dr's office said she had not even heard of it till she started working there...so maybe a lot of doctors are not knowledgeable about it...

I was told treatment involves actual therapy by a speech pathologist where you will learn to breath a certain way when these attacks occur...one of the breathing exercises I was told about was to breath using your stomach....and the other, to breath out of your mouth with lips pursed while making the ffffff sound....when I do this, my vocal corRAB do open...or at least my throat does..

I do have allergies so I guess there is a lot of irritation going on for me....Have you had allergy skin testing?

Hope today you are doing better...
