So work bought me an iPad. I can't figure out a single fucking useful purpose for it. I mean it's cool to browse the web, but is it really nothing more than a glorified web browser/App Store sales machine?

Please list anything that you use this thing for that would make it worth keeping around in an IT/Educational/Photography business setting....

it would be bomb to look through blueprints and mechanical drawings... zoom in on parts and use multi touch to turn it into 3d. that would be the shit. probably not enough processing power for that.

Google is your friend. Anybody in IT should know that, so the question is, "Are you trolling?"

Have you look at the photography apps. A lot of comments by photographers on several apps were like, "Thanks man! This is the shit!"

I made that post before you put up the WiiMote video. I didn't believe that you'd actually buy a controller specifically for your iPod, but I do believe that you'd use your WiiMote to do it.

Also I didn't know that WiiMotes could be used to control iPods.

But this does raise the question: Why don't you just use your Wii?

Mainly because of the unflatterness of double chins. The body position that i use mostly with the iPad is laying down on the couch with head propped up. If you were in bed, laying down, looking down at the iPad vidchatting with friends, you would have puffy face. Laying on your side would also be unflattering. In fact, the only body positions that would be flattering would be sitting in a chair (use your desktop) or standing up (use the iphone 4). Don't you think that the several prototypes they built in the lab already came to the conclusion that a webcam would be unflattering for the user and apple is all about user experience. Btw, somebody took apart the iPad and notice there was a space for a webcam (google it for the link).

So reduced functionality is a selling point?

Is that why it doesn't support Java/Flash? I'm curious what other selling points along those lines the IPad has to offer.

You know that Acura commercial where they show the nice tube amp? (lol at them just citing its frequency reproduction to make a gay commercial)

They should have just done that commercial with an iPad.

Given that an ipad is basically an ipod touch, here are some of the things I do with my touch:

- Watch videos/listen to music of any format streaming from my home computer to anywhere in the world over wifi.

- Access any document on my home computer anywhere in the world over wifi.

- Run any application installed on my home computer from anywhere in the world over wifi

- Read PDF documents anywhere, data sheets, e-books, magazines, you can take a library with you anywhere you go.

- Some of the games in the app store are fantastic, most are shit. Some of the multimedia apps and tool apps in the app store are fantastic, most are shit. Get them all for free so you don't have to worry about wasting money.

- Maps/GPS

- Emulator games, NES/SNES/Genesis/etc.

- Universal remote for television and home theater.

- Remote control for all home PC's

- Remote starter / keyless entry for all vehicles.

- Video chat over wifi

- Internet... I could list all the different things you can do with the internet, but seriously, you should know.

I don't understand people who can't find something to do with this device, it is basically a laptop, I can do anything on it that I can do on my laptop and almost anything that I can do on my PC.

work has given me the option of an ipad or a new macbook pro.. not sure which one is more useful... size/weight of ipad is appealing.

cool list. A lot of that will be really fun to try out!

But in particular, I'm interested in the iPad's functionality in a business setting. I work at a college, and we're investigating the possibilities of the iPad in the educational environment as both a student and teacher, as well as in a business setting for those in the photography and graphic design fields...

My goal here is to find some things that make the iPad functionally relevant in the college.

It seems ideal for reading documents. Probably not bad for looking at pictures if that's part of the business.

Other than that, yeah... waste of money.
