Activating a new phone on existing account?

Ok, I just bought a new phone on my cricket account, but i don't want to get charged the activation fee for the phone. I was wondering if there is anyway to bypass this charge. Can i just program the phone using my telephone nuraber the way the instructions say to program it, or does cricket give a special code or something to program a new phone to use the same nuraber? Thanks in advance for any help.

No way around the charge. The phone won't work until customer service activates the ESN of the phone on your existing account. It's only $15, way easier than doing something illegal.

What's worse is that they charge you that fee even when you are changing ESN's for an insurance replacement! ... and Cricket's insurance plan has an $80 deductable!!!

if you are filing an insurance claim they should not be charging an esn change fee. if they are then the rep doing the claim is an idiot. the copay is $80 for premium phones (had srp > $199 when released) and $50 for regular phones

i have heard of cricket waiving swap fees for longstanding customers, but you will need to go to a retail store and ask nicely. they won't do it over the phone.

yes the esn does need to be registered with cricket as the encryption used to transmit to the phone is based on it.
