Activate 3GS 16 Gig

Hi all be gentle with me this is my first post just bought a iphone it was activated on Orange uk like a plonker i decided to wipe the phone from all the last owners data so now need to activate it problem is i live in spain and cant get my hands on a orange uk sim but might be able to get a expired orange sim will that work? or if any body knows a way round it i would be very greatful
