Acting as a network server...

Hello All, Quick Question (I hope)...

Over at LimeWire you can download a Caching Pong Server that is supposed to help increase the network server infrastructure...

Is this the only way?

When I go to the Gnutellanews site I see a list of 4 servers at the top that are the initial entry points for clients connecting to the network - how does one host one of these servers to help speed things up?

I would appreciate any replies via both e-mail and to this forum.

I fear none of those does help the network. If you run a host cache (pong cache) you have to make it public, otherwise others do not get any advantage. Those initial hosts you mentiond are not needed usually, all modern Gnutella servents get them automatically from (so called) host caches.

Best is install your Gnutella client and let it run 24/7 + share a lot of files + make sure your firewall allows incoming connections to your gnutella servent.

Greets and happy sharing, Moak
