Acquiring a domain up for renewal?

If someone owns a domain that I am interested in, and they are up for renewal soon, how would I go about being able to purchase this domain? Can it only be purchased through the person that owns it. The domain I am interested in is adventuresurplus.com

If someone owns your desired domain name, You can't get is so easily. If the domain holder renews the the domain registration period, He or she may have the authority to hold the domain name for additional period of time maximum 10 years. If the domain registrant forgets to renew the domain name or stops the domain name, Even the the domain name will be i held under the grace period time. May be some 30 days. Only then the domain name will be available for registration.
You can either backorder the domain name or contact the domain holder for a domain bargain if he or she wishes to sell it for you. You can get the domain registrant information by having a whois lookup at www.WhoisXY.com for free. all the best mate.
