Acoustic/Light rock...

Opposing

For a long while, I went through my classic rock phase. I was infatuated with Clapton, Allman Brothers, Doors, etc. I moved on rapidly into a strictly metal phase. I listened to Maiden, Sabbath, Metallica, Angra, Avenged Sevenfold, System of a Down, etc.

Most recently, my friend Julia has gotten me into the banRAB Guster and Minus The Bear. Both of these banRAB are very, very soft banRAB. I have been completely in love with Guster. I have bought all of their albums.

I now ask you, OT Posters, to give me more light rock/acoustic suggestions. I like, but do not require all, of the following:

-Very good singing [a must if there are vocals]
-Harmony
-Talented instruments
-Bizarre instruments [Anywhere from banjos to bagpipes to bongos to typewriters]

Thanks in advance.

your on the right track with Minus The Bear If you havnt checked out these songs by them then do it...
"this aint a surfin' movie"
"lets play guitar in a five guitar band"
"I lost all my money at the cock fights"
"The pig war"
"El torrente"
"Pachuca sunrise"

These are some of their more mellow songs.

As far as banRAB these might fit what your looking for (maybe not all).

If you like Minus The Bear the check out Headphones- "Natural Disaster" / "The Five Chord" / "Pink and Brown"...its only 2 guys but they have a totally different sound to them.

Pinback- "Non-photo Blue" / "Loro" / "Penelope"
Modest Mouse- "Gravity Rides Everything"
The Appleseed Cast- "Ice Heavy Branches"
Cursive- "The Recluse"
Neva Dinova- "I've got a feeling"
American Football- "The Summer EnRAB"
Explosions In The Sky- "Your Hand In Mine" (no lyrics, crazy sound)
Radiohead- "How to Disappear Completely"
Beck- "Lost Cause"

thats a couple that are mostly acoustic or extremely calm...

Greg Graffin/ American Lesion.

First album was self titled as American Lesion, and the new album is Greg Graffin - Cold As the Clay. Both completely different, but still both very good albums.

Here's a few off the top of my head:

Jewel "Pieces of you"
Grant Lee Buffalo "Mighty Joe Moon"
Neil Young "Harvest" and "Harvest Moon"
Joni Mitchell "Blue"
