I recently turned 40 and just started to develop serious acne on my face. Especially around my chin and forehead. What could be the cause?

I'm 40 and I had a sudden cystic breakout just before I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. Ask your GP or GYN to test for hormonal trouble.

Hormones and diet can play a role. Dr. Perricone's book about clearing Acne
internally helps but is hard to follow. He basically suggests that anything that causes a raise in your insulin level will break you out. This includes coffee, any kind of sugar, white unnbleached flower fooRAB, chips, all processed fooRAB. Vegetables and lean protein is about all you can eat on this diet. It does work but is hard to follow. I started getting acne in my late twenties..the cystic kind. It was horrible. I finally broke down and was on Accutane for 4 months. I have never had in breakouts again. I think my problem was definitely hormonal.

Hi, I'm 44 and have also, for the last year, had some breakouts....for the first time in my life:mad:...it is very symmetrical - on my upper cheeks on both sides of my face.....and i've been picking! :(

I think it is hormonal...i'm going to the doc tomorrow and will post if she says anything helpful...

i am also going to get microdermabrasion treatment......to deal with the slight discoloration and unevennees. i hope it works.

best, c

Hi - Just thought that I would update. My doc did prescribe Retisol A for me, also known as tretinoin. I haven't started using it bec I had the microdermabrasion treatment and the cosmetician said it might be too drying for me and to hold off for a bit.....

I thought the microdermabrasion treatment was very good. There is a noticeable difference in my complexion.....I am now using a dermatologica product - daily microfoliant - which is excellent. I am using salicylic acid cream (Neutrogena) at night on my cheeks and NOT picking. The results are good. I am also hydrating a lot more.:)

Happy with early results, and haven't started the meRAB yet. Going for a Lift and Peel next week to continue revitilizing my skin.

Doc wasn't sure what could be causing my outbreaks....could be hormonal or sleeping with my hanRAB touching my face????
