acne free (controlled through diet) 4 years and going!

hello. i haven't posted in a few years. but i figured letting people know how my diet is still controlling my acne might encourage and help. you can read about my story and diet in my last post at:
http://www.healtrabroadoarRAB.com/boarRAB/showthread.php?t=391188&highlight=idealist

i say "control" because within a few days of eating "processed" food i'll start to break out. the break outs are not as bad as they used to be. but considering how eating just a little junk food can cause some minor acne, it really gives me a sense of how inflammatory these fooRAB are for me.

in a nut shell, my diet consists of whole, fresh, natural, unprocessed food. if it's something that isn't created from the earth naturally -- don't eat it. and yes, this means nothing boxed, canned or frozen -- as fresh as possible! and yes, this also means you have to make an effort to learn how to cook from scratch. it wasn't easy. but it's worth it.

i urge all of you using meRAB (topical and oral) to consider the diet route instead. doctors are trained to treat the SYMPTOM, not the ROOT CAUSE, of a problem. during my acne years (and there were many) i would go to a derm and walk out with 3 or more precesriptions for (oral and topical medications and washes). now i don't have to use anything. i don't even use soap to wash my face (all i use is a damp wash cloth and gently rub). i'm sure age has something to do with a little of the drying out. but in one of my early posts you'll read about how when i first went the diet route one of the first things i noticed was my skin completely dried up. up to that point, my skin had always been super oily.

over the years i've continued to recieve a nuraber of compliments on my skin.
aside from the "cosemtic" advantages, the overall health benefits (boost in energy, clearer thinking, emotionally stability, just FEELING better) are worth giving up the "junk" food, which i used to be addicted to.

and again, it takes TIME. trying the diet route will not work overnight or even a few weeks. for me it took about 4 months before i started noticing a difference.

i sincerely hope any information i've posted helps. good luck.

i rarely eat dairy, as i've discovered it's definitely one of my trigger fooRAB. i seem to ok with eggs (i try to eat only them from pasture raised chickens). i don't think dairy is unhealthy at all in itself. it's MODERN dairy and how it's processed that is unhealthy: milk that is pasteurized and from cows that are factory farmed, pumped with antibiotics, hormones, etc.

4 months eh? I guess that seems about right. I've been reading this book about diet/acne and it says you can notice a difference in three days, which is disappoiting having done it for three days and looking the same as before, but I'm gunna stick to the diet. Thanks for you input. It gives hope.

hi jennymc41

re: 4 months, i suppose everyone is different. some people might experience a difference sooner. for me personally, given that i pretty much grew up eating a lot of fast, processed food, i think my "system" was quite overburdened and really needed time to heal and detox.

***i forgot to mention, some people going the diet route might experience a WORSENING of acne. it's temporary. it's your body/skin detoxing.

hang in there!
