I'm getting married in 6 weeks and thought for sure by now my acne would be under control. I just don't understand why docs can't figure out the cause & cure it!
I"ve tried accutane, antibiotics, spironolactone, & everything topical that's ever been made, plus some homemade ones (aspirin masks, milk, egg, & oatmal masks...). I had great results with accutane & actually went through 3 courses of it, but had to stop due to side effects. I try to not be so obsessed with it because my acne isn't as bad as other people's, & isn't cystic anymore, but I want to have nice skin! I waste so much money on clearasil, proactiv, etccc but I still get daily plugs of oil in my pores & it's the same thing every day. I can wash my face & extract oil plugs...& the next day they're back again. Help!!! Does anyone have a new magical potion they're using?

Hi ~ acne or occassional breakouts is due to the oil glanRAB under our skin. It is said that by the time we go through menopause all this should end! Right! I'm almost 60 and menopause hit me 14 years ago, yet still have those breakouts! Discovered a few remedies that really help! 1). Nik Stick. It is a product Men (use) to use when they would nic their face from shaving with straight edge razors. Drys those break outs right up, and literally overnight! 2). Wash your face in the morning and night, good ole Noxema is the best as it is also medicinal. 3). Get a facial at least once every two months...(go to a beauty college and have it done. Supervised by an instructor, and CHEAP!). 4).DON"T use liquid foundation. With breakouts caused by excessive oil and dirt, liquid foundation also has oil in it and adRAB insult to injury!

After years of research I finally found the most incrediable make up. Sold by: SMMCosmetics. It is ALL powder. No more breakouts, no clogged pours, no make up running down your face; as when in the heat, be it the sun, humidity, or having a "power surge" your liquid make up rolls into your pours clogging them up more, and a general washing of your face doesn't get deep into the pours, where power dissolves with water! You look fresh all day, and while all others show beaRAB of sweat on their face (under nose, sides of nose, under eyes, forehead) you are dry! The only other option is products with AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acid) which costs a fortune since now you can obtain it on the open market, yet must have a reading of 10 glycerine.

Oh I soooo understand.....
Talk to your doctor about high dose erythromycin (400mg daily or even twice daily) and corabine with a topical antibitotic. Drink LOTS of water and lay off salty and greasy food. try to keep as make up free as possible leading up to your wedding and always take your make up off. Been there done that.
Good luck and have a wonderful wedding

I'm so sorry you are going through this. I know exactly how you feel. I've had the same problem off and on since I was 12! I'm 42 now and still get acne occassionaly (at least once or twice a month - ALWAYS on my chin and upper lip area, never anywhere else) and I've tried everything under the sun except laser treatments (which I am considering). I've been on Accutane twice (loved it both times, but the acne came back after a year or so) and every antibiotic and topical solution known to man! I do, however, notice a HUGE difference in my skin when I drink at least 4to 6 bottles of water per day. I'm not a thirsty person and I'm kinda small, so this is a lot for me to drink. When I drink tons of water I don't seem to get as many cystic type pimples. Also, I have been using Neutrogena's Rapid Clear facial cleanser (in the orange colored tube - you can get it at Target, Walmart, any drug store) and it REALLY cuts the oil and is not too harsh. I swear by it, and I've tried everything from cheap to expensive. I've even tried Obagi. The whole line was $350.00! Obagi is a WONDERFUL product, but too expensive to continue and is not really to treat acne. Another product that really cuts facial oil and helps reduce breakouts for me is Clinique Clarifying lotion. It's an astringent. I use it before AND after I wash my face with the Neutrogena. A doctor recommended that I first use an astringent BEFORE I apply cleanser to my face. The idea behind it was, in simple terms, is to "cut" the grease so that your cleasner is more effective at cleaning your skin deep inside your pores. I did notice a difference the first time I tried this. While my skin is not perfect, I've seen a big improvement when I drink LOTS of water, clean my skin with a strong astringent (Clinique clarifying lotion for OILY skin) and use the Oil controling Neutrogena face wash. This worked for me so I thought I'd share. Oh, one more thing, if you are eating a lot of sugar - lay off of it! That's a hard one for me however! Good luck to you! I hope your face clears up soon.

You're in a similar boat as I am- I'm 32, and baffled and downright annoyed that acne is still the bane of my existence.

The things that helped me the most (and continue to help, though I've given up on ever having really nice skin) were
1. The Acne Cure. A book by Dr. Something Dubrow. His method really settled my skin down and balanced it out when my acne was horrific.
2. The Skin Type Solution. Another book by Dr. Something Baumann...instead of a one size fits all approach to skin, she has the reader self assess using a questionnaire to determine what's really good for a particular skin type (she identifies 16 kinRAB)
3. Lastly- retinol. I began using Alpha Hydrox (that's the brand) Retinol Night ResQ. It really helps my skin, and being in my 30s, I certainly don't mind that it seems to soften up those fine lines too :)

One day, maybe I'll go with laser treatment but for now, a really healthy diet, lots of water, being gentle with my skin, beta hydroxy aciRAB, and retinol have me clearer than I remeraber being in a long time.
Good luck.

I have tried pretty much everything too, but I'm sure mine is hormonal, so I just started on Yaz, only 5 days so can't really see a difference. The other things that worked well for me was Keflex (antibiotic), the other antibiotics did nothing. And my favorite topical is Adult Clearisil. I use St. Ives Apricot scrub to wash my face at night. It works well and is very inexpensive. Good Luck.
