I had Nissen Fundoplication surgery a year ago 11/08 and still continue to have acid reflux and regurgitation. The surgeon sold me on it stating that 90%of post-op patients are able to discontinue antaciRAB, and become free of heartburn symptoms and acid reflux. Since the surgery, I have continued to have reflux and had to switch GI specialists due to incomepetence. The second GI specialist diagnosed me with Bile Reflux post-op. As a result, I am now on additional medication for this newly developed condition. It has been my experience having acid along with bile reflux is a miserable condition. It is lucrative for a surgeon to recommend this type of procedure and charge your insurance $16,000 for it (in my case) just like recommending patients have their gallbladder removed - so once again they can get paid for it and get away with it. I cannot say I would recommend Fundoplication surgery and always get a second opinion when any doctor starts recommending to remove one's gallbladder. Removing one's gallbladder often causes Bile Reflux!
