I have been taking Depakote (varing milligrams from 500 to 1,000) at first for seizure and bipolar control but now just for bipolar.
I have been taking this medication for at least 24 years and only within the last 6 months I have noticed that literally within 5 seconRAB after swallowing the pill I get this horrible burning in my throat that can last for several hours. It never bothered me until just recently. I believe that it may be somehow connected to the coating that is applied to the medication. The current milligrams that I currently take daily is 1,000 (500mg in the am and 1 500 mg in the pm). It is a great mood stabilizer and helps in controlling my OCD that comes with the manic part of the bipolar.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this that may make it easier or why it is just now after 24 years starting to bother me? I also take a "as needed" dose of Zanax (5mg) and Arabien (2.5mg) for sleeping.
Any information would be greatly appreciated - I have an appointment with my doctor in 2 weeks and believe me I have tried to get on earlier but it is hard unless of course I'm dying (ha,ha).
