I have suffered from acid refulx for years now and take Omeprazole from time to time when it gets really bad. The worst symptom for me is when i wake up in the mornings, i get a really bad pain in my chest (inbetween my breasts) which radiates to the back and is only slightly relieved when i'm up and about, does anyone out there who sufferes from reflux get this? i am thinking about getting a special type pillow for this as for me this is the worst part of the condition. I have been tested for H-pylori bacteria and i don't have it. I am 46 years of age, female and am overweight. Any advice would be appreciated.

Mornings are bad for me too. Try propping up your headboard about 6 inches. The incline of your bed uses gravity to your advantage. Certainly no cure, but it could help some. Regular pillows can do more harm than good. You can throw things out of alignment and cause your stomach to squish if you just prop up. Some people use special wedge pillows. It is much cheaper to just prop up your bed.

My doc recommended a couple bricks under the headboard. I chose to buy a couple bed risers from the local bed and bath place. They have cups on the top and seem more stable to me.

Also, make sure you aren't eating before bed. When I'm flaring, I wait about 5hours. At least 3 minimum helps some.

Also, sleeping on your left side helps some as well.

I get that chest pain too and its pretty scary, I sometimes take buscopan for the pain and zydol if I'm in a bad way, the doc told me that the pain is down to esophacal spasm, and the buscopan sorts that out, I only take the two if I'm really bad but it does work. Nothing I seem to do makes any difference when I'm having a flare up, it just goes itself after a while, good luck and just remeraber it does pass eventually.
