AcidImage and RescoViewer use different ways of preserving thumbnails.  From my experience when "auditioning" trials, AcidImage creates a folder on the SD Card, and creates some "AI" files under EACH of the DCIM categories for photos you may have.

RescoViewer (for edification only) makes a silly 11k file under EACH AND EVERY PHOTO on the card, or takes up a sizeable amount of handheld RAM to do the same.  AcidImage's way is BETTER and leaner.

HOWEVER . . . if AI ever crashes, it is because it is searching for files and either not finding them or "choking" trying.  For instance, if you use a file utility to delete images "wholesale" AI may crash on next opening.  It is better to use AI itself to delete images as it "amends" it's thumbnail DB accordingly.

When loading the upgrade something along these lines may have happened, barring a bug in 3.0 which I don't have.

A quick fix would be use a file utility (or card reader and doing it on the PC) and DELETING: AI Prefs, ALL AI files in ANY folder you can find on the card, and DELETING the AcidImage folder under "Programs."

This will give AI a "fresh start" at FINDING images - you'll get the same goofy "startup messages" and may have to re-enter preferences such as image size (that's what the thumbnails do - preserve what you like in "sizing" for next time you open).
