Absolutely not professional at all. These kinds of discussions should be done afterwork. If you are stupid enough to engage in such a conversation during work hours then you deserve whatever idiocy comes of it.

Well, first off this was a local chat for a internal department in a very large company. This department is composed of around 50-60 people, only 16 or so were present at that particular time of the day.

Talking about sex on the LAN chat is deemed normal. The two who got insulted, are just at a relationship level "acquaintances." They of course did not rat me out to the suits. The reason I care for this issue is that in this department, there are only 18 males in this department, half of which are gay. So you see, males are a minority here.

Normal in a job where you make 15$ a day. But, seriously, you should always try to be more professional than those you work with.

I thought this was going to be generally a thread about people using the chat service at work for some other non-work purpose, probably stupid. I saw it was indeed that, but then the OP was also in it. TT.
