I have worked for Health Net Inc. for 5 years as an accounting representative, previously had six years experience in health care industry. I went to community college but only took general eds and did not transfer due to lack of time, kids, etc. For career advancement , what are recommendations as of career guidance. I get this alot, you are already working as an accountant, finishing your associates wont do much, even a bachelors. most of my collegues are college graduates.

Finish college, employers these days will not even consider anyone without a college degree. This is just a minimum requirement.

At the same time, get your CPA. This opens doors for you in a huge way. CPAs are always in demand by employers. There are plenty of people who can say they're "accountants", but are really just entry-level grunts who compare one piece of paper to another. Getting your CPA proves a minimum level of competency.

If you want the hottest jobs, you could try to work for the Big 4 accounting firms as a Staff I, but they will only hire young people with no families since they want people who can work all day and all night, and weekends when necessary.
