Okay. accidentally ordered drillbit taylor on Vu27, and I'm rather confused as to how! I've finally got my 2 new 4100s and I hate them with a passion. Everything looks horrible on my LCD. At least it's only for 2 days.

I was scanning through PPV and since i'm not used to the remote my thumb slipped and clicked order. My receiver isn't connected to a phone line, so I figured it wouldn't go through, because in all honesty I don't want to watch DB taylor. But for some reason, it went through. And now, if I tune to Vu27, I see the movie. The weirdest thing is it didn't even seem to concern itself with dialing out! It was as if I was just turning to any regular channel I've subscribed to.

Do you think BellTV will call me or I will be charged?

You won't be charged until the receiver is hooked to a phone line to call in the purchase.

Hmmm, does the 4100 behave differently than a 9200 when ordering PPV?

When I tried ordering the free olympic PPV's, the first thing the receiver attempted to do was to dial out. I don't have a phone line attached so it failed.

With the 9242, you also need more than one "thumb slip." IIRC. it requires two clicks on confirmation boxes to complete the purchase. Not sure if the 4100 is the same.

IMHO, anything less than a 9242 will yield poor results with an LCD HDTV, both in picture quality and programming satisfaction. You also only need one 9242 compared to two 4100s.

I think the difference here is that the 4100 was NEW, only active a very short time. I believe you can order PPV's just after acivation for maybe 5 to 7 days, without the receiver asking or looking for Dial Tone.

After that, it will attempt to dial out first.

Anyway, as long as you do not hook up a Phone Line, there is no way that Bell can charge you for the PPV.

Just what will happed if the receivers are sold to another customer is another question. I think that as soon as they activate the receiver AND hook it to a phone line, it will dial out and the NEW customer will be charged for the PPV movie.

They will see it on there Bill, call in and it should be easy to have the charge reversed, lets face it they may have had the receiver active on their account for 3 days, yet the PPV is several weeks old.

Will Bell come after you, for the charges.? No idea.

Well, the receiver had been activated for about 4 hrs at the time (its a brand new receiver) and the account is gonna be active for less than 12 hrs after now. Shaw is coming to hook up cable and take the dish.

IWMHDTV, I was expecting as much - it's not really a problem, i'm cancelling Bell tomorrow. It's been an OK run with Bell, but I am angry with the poor installation (i took a look at the cable centre: the place outside my house where either a dish comes in to the house or cable comes to the house. it's very messy) and the seemingly impossible signal (i spent 2 hrs trying to activate these receivers trying to get 75% signal, which kind of coincides with poor installation) and the less-than-impressive customer service. even if the picture quality isn't as good, i most likely will not notice (i'm not very discerning with that) and it's a small price to pay for always on service. plus I get $700 worth of equipment free and the overall cost saves me $500 per year. that was reason enough to leave. :)

I remember the day I left Bell. They didn't even make any retention offers. I wonder if all of those CRTC complaints regarding simsubs I filed had something to do with it!
Anyway, Good luck with Shaw.

I for one would love for you to keep us informed as to what you finnaly get invoiced from Bell.

Pretty sure you will still be paying for another 30 days at the very least, if you have called in to cancel the service that is...... Might also get a bill for the PPV if Shaw plug in the receiver and hook it to a phone line.....lol

From what I've read in the SHAW's forum , you are in for a big surprice , good luck.

Lets see...this is my estimate, but you never know with bell.

Digital Standard-31.00
Digital Stupidity Fee-3.00
1 PPV (???)- 4.99
tax
___________

$39.23 total.

Pinza, I'm wondering too. Bell can't know, so I expect I won't be charged. If you're curious about fees due to activating and cancelling so soon, there really shouldn't be. I've activated the receivers exactly to the instructions at the bell store. the store confirmed that I can indeed cancel. If I get any fee, I will definitely have a bone to pick with Bell.

Just read the back of my bill and found nothing. Called bell and they said it's fine. I have no idea why it would be $150. They said my last bill would be a standard bill.

from Bill:
Terminating or cancelling your programming

You have the right to terminate your programming by notifying our Customer Service Centre. ExpressVu wwill deactivate all of the Programming on the 30th day after receiving your notice to cancel. If you are a term contract subscriber please refer to your Term Contract, as certain fees or charges may apply.

I'm not under term contract so I should be fine. Basically what I'm trying to say is I've pretty much ascertained that there will not be a fee.

Okay, well, i've canceled with Bell. I told them that Shaw is coming tomorrow, so they won't charge me very much for the remaining 30 days. My final bill comes to $12.80.
