I know the answer, I just can't get my numbers to work out. Here's the exact problem:
A car and a bike both accelerate from rest. The car accelerates at 9 miles per hour per second, and the bike accelerates at 13 miles per hour per second. They both accelerate until they reach their maximum speeds: 50 miles per hour and 20 miles per hour respectively. Find the time interval for which the bike is in front of the car and how far in front of the car the bike is at a maximum.
My answer: 3.45 seconds; 10.0 feet.
Could someone please help?
