windows, clock, stereo)? Every now and then my 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee will do this when started, Then, realizing something's wrong, I go to shift into park, there is a momentary horrible grinding noise (sounds like that sound when you try to start a car that's already started). Then when I turn off the car and restart it, everything is perfectly normal like nothing ever happened.
This has happened about 5 times now in the last week and it's really weird. The 1st time it happened, the car sounded different when started--like something was clearly wrong, and that's when I noticed the abs and brake light on the instrument panel.
Everything else is normal with the car's performance. What is really strange is how when the car is started and the ABS and red brake light comes on (and stays on until restarted) there is ALSO no power to the air conditioning, no radio, no power windows, no stereo, no clock, no light on the shifter indicator. When this has happened, I immediately put the car into "park", to turn it off, and that grinding sound happens....no matter which gear I put the shifter in, that sound will happen. My husband says when the abs and brake light's on, it sounds like the starter motor is being engaged when we shift the car when the engine is idling.
Any ideas on this?
Additional Info: The brakes have been checked, tons of meat on the front pads, and less than half-worn on the rear, but replaced the rear pads anyway just in case. The jeep has 130k miles on it and has run beautifully since we bought it 4 yrs ago. Recently it has begun to leak tranny fluid, but the level is always checked and maintained. Had a transmission maintenance service/flushing a year ago at a shop during a major tune up.
Thanks!
