im about to get a 6700 to use on cricket. i had a few questions though. does it have to be a verizon phone? and do i need to get a usb cable with it? what other things do i need to get with it and know before i buy it.

Verizon is easiest, but you can mod sprint, alltel, quest, telus, etc.. basically anything except for T-mobile or Cingular/At&T.

The phone should come with a USB cable.. it's required to sync your phone to the computer, something you'll probably do nearly every day... No other hardware is needed. You might have to download some software if you get a locked phone, which is the reason verizon's phones are easiest. THey never lock their phones.

In short, I'd get a verizon phone unless you get a SCREAMING deal on another carrier's phone.

Pretty much all the info you'll need is on this forum.

One disclaimer, which I've realized in the last week is probably pretty important:

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO UPGRADE THE AKU UNTIL YOU KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING. Several "noobs" (no disrespect intended) have had problems, which would have been avoided if they had waited, gotten more involved in the community, and done a little research on other forums before they tried to take matters into their own hanRAB.

have you been able to use bitpim on a 6700? Everything I've read says you have to linux boot to do it... not worth my hassle. I use QPST and a program called MSLReader.

The fact that this was such a PITA is why I strongly recommend that you buy a verizon phone if you're new to programming.

i'm also looking into getting a new phone, maybe waiting a little bit for the Q to come out or just to get the 6700. Is there anyone who could do the setup for people who arent so tech savvy?, obviously for a price. I know its good to learn, but i dont want to jack up my $200 phone. Or mayb someone wants to sell there already flashed 6700.... :D

Sorry about the hi-jack

Yeah your able to use Windows Bitpim with the drivers ive posted a long time ago. if QPST can read it bitpim will read it just fine....

Esn changing and spc is way easy on these phones,
spc changing on most phones is easy if you have the right skill for it ;)

ok another thing do the verizon 6700s come in white or just in black, i was looking on ebay and all i could find were black ones but my girl wants a white one.

The black are definitely cooler than the silver. I've seen them both side-by-side (the Sprint PPC6700 version versus the Verizon xv6700 version) and IMHO the black one looks so much better and less plasticky.

She might need to see them for herself before deciding. You should go see the hanRABets in person for yourselves before making a final decision.

Also be warned: I can't speak from experience, but others have said the Sprint (silver) version is a royal pain.

ok thanks though and i know im new in this section but im not new to the site. ive always had gsm motorolas though. the 6265i is my first cdma phone. so the 6700 will be the first cdma phone i try to mod. hopefully flashing it to cricket wont be too hard to do.

Wait, so you CAN flash a Sprint 6700 to Cricket? Because this may just be the push I need to cancel my service with Sprint.

Explain please?

Trust me, I'm not a n00b. I've already flashed my phone through two different hacked firmwarRAB (3.3 and 3.5) and done loaRAB of other hacks to it...

Verizon doesn't make a PPC6700. There's really no difference in the phone besides the color of the case, and the software built in by the cellular provider.

If your phone is black, it's an xv6700 from verizon. If it's silver, it's a PPC6700 from another carrier.

THere are about 5 different tutorials posted... Mine is the most comprehensive, but there are simpler ways to get your phone moved over. If you hard reset regularly, you definitely want to use my walkthrough, however.

I was looking and none of them deal directly with the Sprint 6700 so far. I'll have to look up the tutorial for getting my MSL in linux via bitpim again I guess.

The steps for the sprint are identical to the verizon. The only difference is that you might have to update the MMS software, and you have to unlock your MSL via bitpim.

No worries, didn't mean to seem like an A-hole, but we've been assaulted by lazy, spamming noobs lately... I've gone on the defensive lately, and haven't been too motivated to help people.
