dont u think the watergate scandal should be called watergate-gate because if there was a scandal about water then it would be called watergate
what about if there was a scandal about water then what would it be called?

"The Watergate" was and I think still is a hotel and office complex in Washington DC. It was where the Democratic National Committee had it's headquarters. In 1972, a very liberal Democrat named George McGovern was running for President against Richard Nixon. Nixon's people sent guys to break into the Democratic office to find out something-who knows what (Watch "All The President's Men" from about 1976, I don't know what was going on)

SInce then every scandal has gotten "gate" put on it. Before 1972, if there was a scandal it did not have "gate" stuck to it.

You have way too much time on your hands.
Do you even now what "watergate" referred to?

Watergate is the name of the hotel that Nixon had bugged so he could listen in on Democrats' planning meetings. Since then, the media has just used the last syllable and attached it to anything they don't like with the hope of rallying the public to their cause.
