I'm watching the Yankees vs Mariners game and heard from Michael Kay that the Mariner's Ichiro Suzuki's name in Japanese means first boy or child. In the Mariner's Ichiro's case his name does not mean first boy. He got the "Ichi" from his grandfather and the "ro" in this case means cheerful or merry. His parents wanted him to be a cheerful person that's why they gave him this name Ichiro even though he is the second child in his family. I notified YES network about this before but they're not getting it.
Did you know about this because I never knew about it until recently. Again Ichiro Suzuki's name Ichiro does not mean first boy! Can someone tell this to Michael Kay of the YES Network?
I totally don't understand what you guys are talking about especially the troll with his words about dorphins and whare. what's a whare?
I'm not criticizing Michael Kay, he's just misinformed.
It is true that a more popular name "Ichiro" does mean first boy; Ichi does mean first and ro, in a different way of writing chinese characters, means boy. That's the more popular name BUT again in the Mariner's Ichiro's case, it doesn't mean firstboy, it's just "Ichi" - first and "ro" cheerful or merry. It would something like the spelling of the name "John". The more popular way of spelling the name John would be john but some people are named "Jon" with just J o n.
New Yorker five is "go" in Japanese.
