About a jailbroken iphone for tmobile?

I'm thinking of getting a jail broken iphone from a relative. Before he stopped using it he put 'delete all' and turned it off. now when i turned it on all i see is the apple symbol. its been like that going on 12 hours already. Any help with this will be appreciated.
 
For some reason, that always freezes. Is it a 3G or 3Gs?


Whatever you do, don't update it. The newest update cannot be unlocked, yet. Also if you take it to apple they'll update it for sure. You've gotta restore it with the 3.1.2 softare for the specific phone you're using.
