Abolish the National Weather Service!

why do people assume I think that?

the issue is this a matter of public safety. I want decisions to be made on this basis for what is in the public's interest, not when profit/loss enters in the equation.

the NWS spent a lot of money on this storm to identify the track. I don't want that decision to be made if someone has a bonus tied to it.

The satellites we have up there now are aging, and there aren't plans to replace them which is a shame.

the accuracy is very impressive. once it identifies a storm, more often than not the track is very very close to what it does.

the trouble is predicting intensification, because a stronger storm will be affected by upper level steering whereas a weaker one won't.

and intensification is a process which we don't understand fully.

that people would suggest the NWS be privatised is disturbing.

there would be a boogeyman every 30 seconRAB that people would need to prepare for. see accuweathe for hypocast. its bad enough the weather channel and local media latches onto to the forecasts and hypes them...do you really want the OFFICIAL forecast to be done for profit?

the current system works very well. There is no reason to change it, under then to suit some pathetic radical agenda.
