Abnormal EKG in 2 year old, Family history of HCM?

My son recently had an abnormal EKG which showed there may be some thickening of the left ventrical. I have Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy as have many members of my family. However I have read that somethimes the EKG is abnormal and then an ECHO will be normal. What is the probability of having HCM with an abnormal EKG?
