ABC Kids Refreshed Schedule ?

Because the network no longer cares about it. The only reason it still exists is to fulfill the FCC-mandated three hours of children's programming per week rule, so they're not going to put in any effort into changing up the schedule. They'd much rather replace it with infomercials or local programming instead, if they could.

I'm sure if they could find a way to abandon ABC Kids, they would. It's recycled old Hannah Montana basically, because there haven't been new episodes added to the rotation since 2007. ABC could air better Saturday morning program, but I'm perfectly fine with this.

If ABC gave the slightest hint of caring (which they don't), the schedule would look like:

- Phineas & Ferb (1 hour)
- Wizards of Waverly Place
- Hannah Montana
- Suite Life on Deck
- Good Luck, Charlie

But as it is, like everyone else has already stated, they're just doing the bare minimum because that's all they're required to do.

Those who find ABC's Saturday schedule perfectly fine after years of stagnation may as well just have their entire TV on an endless loop. The fact that they continue showing 3 series that don't run on Disney anymore (That's So Raven, The Replacements, and The Emperor's New School) and (evidently) haven't bothered to add newer eps of Hanna Montana or The Suite Life of Zach and Cody to the schedule clearly show they don't care two spits about the block. Adding the newer eps or current shows to the schedule should be a no-brainer, if they cared at all. I avoid the block like the plague--I'd rather watch some of the other broadcast networks' shows if nothing is on the cable stations. To add insult to injury, the current schedule has NO BUSINESS being considered as fulfiling the E/I mandate as there is nothing romotely educational or informational about them, unlike the shows on NBC's or CBS's Saturday schedules, even as somewhat lame as they are. I'm surprised no one has attempted to bring ABC up on charges of not complying with the E/I rule, though I imagine there's such a broad interpretation of what E/I means, that the network could dodge any punishment. Furthermore, ABC/Disney most likely has connections with the FCC (lobbyishs or the like) that would head off any troulble brought up by any individual or organization.

They used to air Power Rangers, ending with premieres of RPM, but that ceased August 28, 2010 when Nick/Saban bought the rights. Additionally, that hour of Power Rangers didn't air everywhere, and I do recall it formerly being W.I.T.C.H. or Kim Possible or something else non-E/I. They really need to update their site, though, since Power Rangers is still listed... but that's proof they don't care about it.

I'm a mixed bag when it comes to this... for one, I want non-cable viewers to experience Phineas and Ferb, Shake It Up, Sonny With a Chance, and to see the remainder of Hannah Montana, but on the other hand, it could damage CW4Kids/Toonzai and thus hurt their chances of revival/making a profit.

When ABC Kids began in 2002, it aired for 5 hours. It was cut down to 4 hours in September 2004 (removing 8-9 am) and then to 3 hours in September 2010 (removing 12-1pm). Since 2004, the 12-1pm hour was non-E/I and many affiliates, including those owned by Hearst Entertainment, refused to air it. The only shows other than the many incarnations of Power Rangers to air in that hour were W.I.T.C.H., Kim Possible, and NBA Inside Stuff. The hour was often pre-empted for local and national sports coverage, but that has occurred since the early days of Saturday morning TV.

i remember Kim Possible being on the schedule though, to my knowledge, they never showed any of the final season on the block. I mostly remember W.I.T.C.H. running on ABC Family and Disney (or Toon Disney) but if you say it ran on ABC Kids, I'll take your word for it.

Though Phineas and Ferb started airing exclusively on Disney XD, since Disney is available on so many basic cable systems, running it on ABC probably won't be a revelation to many people. It would make perfect sense to run it and the other shows you mentioned, though. We'll see if they care enough to make the changes.

Toonzai/CW4Kids won't do much IMO until they replace the shows they've been running for years and/or inject some exclusive new stuff into the schedule.

That maybe true for the live action shows--not so much for the animated ones.

There's also the deal that's set to go into effect this fall, where Litton Entertainment will be providing E/I programming for ABC affiliates. Not sure of all the technicalities -- but it's something EACH affiliate (or group of affiliates owned by the same company) has to subscribe to. I don't think it's a deal made by ABC at the network level.

So, this August may very well be the last we see of ABC Kids in its current arrangement.

And it's so true, if the FCC rescinded the E/I requirement, ABC, CBS and NBC would drop their kids blocks tomorrow.

The closest Phineas & Ferb has gotten to being on ABC is doing some skits during sports programming in the last year. If they don't really give a rat's butt about the children's shows, then they could freshen their prime time slates on Saturday & Sunday.

I say, cut the current lineup ASAP, give the time back to affiliates until the Litton deal kicks in, and pick up the following Disney Channel/DisneyXD series to fill time on the weekends:

Saturdays:

8: Zeke & Luther
8:30: Suite Life on Deck

Sundays:

7: Good Luck Charlie
7:30: Wizards of Waverly Place

I'd move America's Funniest Home Videos to another night.

ABC would never give ANY spot in their primetime schedule to Disney channel reruns, plus they'd still need that third hour the E/I requirement mandates.

I'm kind of surprised that none of the affiliates have gotten it into their heads to bury ABC kids in the wee hours of Sunday morning so they can use the Saturday slots for informercials/news shows.

If memory served, didn't Camp Rock air on ABC primetime once? But that's a DCOM, I guess they air those sometimes.

I remember seeing it on the schedule, but my affiliate canceled that slot or moved it to like 5am.

I don't remember it airing on XD exclusively... and actually, as I was saying, airing anything new to ABC on the block would boost its ratings.

I wouldn't be so sure. They've come really close to breaking even, and they mentioned if the ratings stay above 0.8 then they'll break even. However, as I said, airing stuff new to ABC could cause competition and hurt them. That's why I'm a mixed bag.

Oh, I'm sure they've thought of it; they just can't do it. According to the FCC, all 3 required hours of E/I programming must air between 7am-10pm, when kids are actually awake to watch it. So, they can't bury the block or kill it, which is why it's such a thorn in the affiliates' side.

Actually, ABC did air the Phineas & Ferb Christmas special in primetime last Christmas Eve.

I don't watch any of the shows on ABC Kids, but I do agree they should update their schedule. I'm not sure if they'd have to pay Disney to air them, or how much it would cost if they did. But it seems to me that episodes of "Phineas & Ferb", "Wizards Of Waverly Place" and other recent Disney Channel shows would get more ratings than old episodes of "That's So Raven" and "The Replacements". I know they have to air at least 3 hours of E/I programming, but since they can apparently use that label on any kid's show with a general moral in most episodes, I think most of the Disney Channel shows would probably fit the bill. So I'm guessing either Disney wants ABC to pay more for new episodes than they're willing to spend, or ABC cares so little about their kids' block that they don't mind losing potential viewers.
