Jeez where to start... about 4 years ago my ex and I had an apartment in Maryland we only lived there for a couple of months. Our neighbors were horrible and were violating the lease agreement and we complained constantly, nothing was ever done about it. We couldn't afford to move so we with held rent for 2 months and used that money to move. Well 2 years later I lost my job couldn't get a job anywhere (yes, I sunk low and applied everywhere I was over qualified) unemployment hardly paid anything. We fell behind on our rent and moved out of state before we were evicted. I never heard anything from the 1st apartment. The second one I didn't even know was suing me as I said I moved out of state. Then one day my paycheck (yes, I got a job finally) came up short and there was a garnishment on it. About a week later I got a letter from my work informing me they had provided info to a lawyer by order of court. So my little check which doesn't even cover my bills is now coming up 25% short every single week. Well I guess the 1st apartment sued me in December too because my ex's parents told me the other day I had received a summons in the mail to appear to discuss my assets and that I have to bring proof over everything I own to the hearing.
I'm already being garnished so they can get in line and in 2 years when I'm done paying the other company off I guess they can have their turn. As I don't have any assets at all. Nothing. Nada. 0. I haven't had a bank account in over 7 years. I don't own anything so there's nothing to take. That's not what worries me.
What's got my goat is that these 2 company's were able to sue me and get judgments against me when I didn't even know I was being sued.
Also I now live in another state so can they really make me come back to MD to appear and if I don't what will happen? Is there some way to get them to drop this?
I also thought there was a statue of limitations that said they only had 3 years and the 1st apartment we lived at waited over 3 before they brought suit.
I can't afford a lawyer I don't have any money and the one lawyer I found in my area that does pro bono wouldn't help me, I asked.
