i know all of us get spam email. but really where does it come from ? how does the originator get it (these ones im talking about are the ones that offer like "free rolex watches" but most of the text is misspelled anyways, and the free online jobs, etc. all of those that just accumulate in your spam box.

They try and mimic the first few letters of your email address (example if mine was apple123 then the email they would send starts with app482 etc.)

Is some guy / or girl sitting at some desk somewhere either here in the States or some place across the world entering in just random emails in hopes someone will click on them. Is it just a computer program they have sending them out ?

whats their purpose, just to clog up our emails or hope some innocent victim will click on one of their emails and then they can hack their computer...

just my wonderment for a sunday morning. thanks for sharing your thoughts and knowledge on spam.

Very simply a spammer does this for money. He/she gets a fee to send out a message. They buy email address lists (search the terms 'email list' to see a few vendors) or they set up a computer program to send millions of messages to random names. They make money if they get a few responses. A few have been sent to jail in the US. Perhaps this has happened in other countries too. That is not a deterrent for the rest.
