...path is 90sqft,how W is the pat? a rectangular pool with the width 12 ft and length 15 ft is going to have a path of uniform width on all sides. if the area of the path is 90 sq ft, how wide is the path?
(please show all work to get to your solution).
 
12x15=180

the area created by the outside rectangle of the patch is 180+90=270.

the rectangles are similar so they will have a constant ratio. 5:4

5x*4x=270
20x^2=270
x^2=13.5
x=3.674
5x=18.37ft
4x=14.69ft
