A recorded sound file turning into a photo image file?

So I recorded something, and now the file somehow turned into a photo image file. I've tried opening it in Winamp and Windows media player, but it didn't work. And the recording device I got it from says "invalid file license" when I try and play it back.

It has a companion file that plays just fine, the only thing I can see different is that the file properties changed for one.
