I hate being in the same class with a bunch of morons. I'm really sick of it. I'm scared of what the future in America is going to be. Kids in my class (I'm 15 years old, and a sophomore) are just flat out stupid. They don't know how to do the simplest of things. They don't know the cells organelles and functions and everything, they don't know the capitals of most countries, they don't know how to do easy math problems. These people, who somehow manage to pass, annoy me.
I'm not amazingly smart, but I do consider myself in the top of my class. I see these people everyday ask for help on the easiest of problems. I'm very scared of what's going to happen to America. Usually, I hate people that stereotype others. But the stereotype of Americans being dumb seems to be very true. Classes are getting easier and easier. In some classes, every time we get a quiz, we are allowed to use our notes on it. What is the point of having a quiz where you already have the answer to it? It's just free points. When there is a quiz or test people don't get to use notes with, the majority of the kids in my class fail. There are a few of us that are able to get A's or B's on almost every test, but most of my class either barely passes or fails the whole thing.
School days are very short. We aren't in school as much as we should be. People in my class actually complained about having 2 weeks off during Christmas instead of 3 weeks. Almost all the kids in my class are too lazy to do their homework. So instead, they just copy off of the ones that do have it done. They don't learn anything at all, but still get good enough grades in the class to pass.
There should not be a summer vacation AT ALL. Students in other countries go a full twelve months of school.
Teachers need to do a better job as well. It is not just the kids fault for being uneducated. They need to find ways to teach in different ways, so more kids would understand the subject. I'm not saying the teachers are bad, but they are mediocre at best.
I just had to let off some steam. Again, this is coming from a 15 year old (surprising?) Do you think that American education is failing? Why or why not? How do we fix the education system?
