I can't make head nor tail of the intricacies of the changes to housing benefit announced in the Spending Review.
i know that the way the LHA rate is worked out is changing and i know that happens next year, in October i think so i'm clear on that.
However, the rule that affects me is the one that means only those 35 and over will be allowed to claim for a one bed-roomed or more property. Anyone under that will only get the rate for a shared room/bedsit.
My question is this. Does that apply to new claims only or are current claims, people already getting the one bedroom rate included in that change when it kicks in?
Please help me get my head round this, it's been worrying the hell out of me! I'm not a feckless sponger before anyone makes that accusation, and i am looking for work so hopefully it'll be a moot point but even when i do find work i'll be on a low wage so i'll still need a degree of help.
Any help here is much appreciated, thanks.
(and i really hope this ends up in the right section, it's 0230 and i'm dog tired through worry so i might have ballsed this up!)
