If you mean Movie Central and The Movie Network, well the former is owned by Corus and is for western Canada while the latter is owned by Astral Media and is for eastern Canada.
I think the two companies struck some agreement or something so as not to compete, and they just divided the country in half. Though I guess if they wanted to work together they could just share the one channel, but whatever. I can't think of any other good reason. HBO Canada is a joint venture between them, so they are willing to work together. Coincidentally Teletoon is actually a joint venture between the two companies too.
