A question for those that have done/doing astronomy related degrees in the UK?

Hi, Im at the stage of choosing a degree [for 2010 start] and was strongly thinking about Astronomy. However, i can't find any universities within the United Kingdom that offer Just astronomy, they offer physics and astronomy, and some offer just Astrophysics. If, i wanted to specialize in astronomy, would i need to do physics and astronomy or is there anywhere where I can Just do astronomy that covers it? I also love the idea of the universities that offer a year abroad :)
So has anyone been through this process already and could recommend any universities in the United Kingdom?

I don't know of anyplace in the world that offers a degree in Astronomy. All the degrees I know of are in Astrophysics.

Who would hire an Astronomer without the physics. What exactly would an Astronomer learn without physics.

I hope someone else can give you a better answer. I'd like to know the answer myself! :)
 
Astronomy is not a degree subject. Looking through various telescopes, knowing how to use them and various different types of detector is not degree level stuff - it needs bulking out with theory and understanding of what you are seeing - in other words physics.

The astronomy career path is open if you do any of the courses you mention or even general physics. You will only need to specialise at postgraduate level.
