A question for parents! How would you feel about your kid wanting to join the military?

What is the best way to bring it up?

I have a feeling my mom as much as I love her wont want me to join and will probably get a little hysterical.

My dad was in vietnam and I have no idea how he will react.

When and how should I bring this up? Should I tell them I'm considering it or wait until I have made a final decision?
