education.? I am currently a freshman in college, majoring in elementary education. I am only a week away from finishing my first year.

I have read statistics online which say that for any given open teaching position, an average of 4,000 people apply. This worries me a bit because I'd really like to get a job, which leads me to my question:

For those of you who are elementary school teachers, how many times did you have to apply at various schools until you actually got a job? How long did it take to get a teaching job since you graduated?

Thank you.

I am a secondary teacher, and have been teaching for over 20 years, but I am well aware of the fact that there are usually many candidates for an elementary position.

There are things you can do, however, to make yourself more marketable. The number one thing would be to be willing and able to coach sports. Schools are always looking for more coaches. Also, if you have a variety of things you can do, such as special education or reading endorsements, that will also help.

I know this doesn't really answer your question, but I hope it helps.

Good luck.
