A question about surface winds and sea level pressure?

On April 6, 2010 the Upper Midwest was visited by strong surface winds, which blew at nearly 15 m s-1 in Madison. Which of the two statements below more accurately describes the meteorological conditions in the region that day?

(a) Small differences in sea-level pressure existed from station to station across the area.

(b) Large differences in sea-level pressure existed from station to station across the area.

(b) Large differences. The larger the pressure differential, and the closer the isobars (lines of pressure connecting high pressure to low pressure), the stronger the winds.
