The manual for my car states:
1. wear safety belts.
2. apply parking brake.
3. check the seats,mirrors etc are in proper positions.
4. Make sure the gearshift lever is in NEUTRAL position and "press the clutch pedal all the way down."
5. without touching the accelerator pedal, turn the ignition to start and release it when the engine starts.
My question is regarding step number 4, what is the purpose of pressing the clutch all the way down?
