Hello all, while I am new posting here at the forums, I have been reading and following this site since its inception, and also since my own foray into Android. With all of that said, while I like to think of myself as very well read with regards to technology, I know absolutely nothing on the subject of coding and or programming.
The reason that I have made this thread is because as we all know, Google will be unveiling some information regarding Android version 2.2 at this month's upcoming I/O conference. And while it is rumored to bring many long awaited features or improvements to Android as a whole, there are two features that I as a Nexus One owner am especially looking forward to; The move from kernel 2.6.29 to 2.6.32, and the addition of a JIT compiler to the OS.
Okay, so here are my questions for those of you know. The changing of the Linux kernel in Android will finally unlock the remainder of the RAM on devices that have greater than 256 MB, which will hopefully allow for faster load times and smoother transitions OS wide. However, as mentioned above, it is rumored that there will be a JIT compiler, which from what I have read is supposed to provide similar results. I have heard some folks out there mention something called Davlik Turbo, and I've seen the demo video that highlights the improvements it can make to applications.
When Android 2.2 is finally available to consumers, which of the two will have a more appreciable difference on the system? Additional RAM, the JIT compiler, or both? Will we mistake the unlocking of RAM to be the reason why the OS becomes faster while it will actually be the JIT, or will it be the other way around?
