A question about getting my first bike?

I I have very little riding experience ( I have only ridden a kx250 once) but I have a chance to get a great deal on a harley nightster, I love the bike, but what I am wondering is would it be a waste. The last thing a want is to get a great bike like that and drop it, I am a quick learner. But is there anyone here who as not dropped there first bike.
