A question about exercise and daily calories?

I've been using the "my fitness pro" iphone app and it's got me all confused.

It's basically for logging all your food/exercise to stay on track.

What's confusing me is that when I exercise and burn a certain amount of calories, it adds it back to my daily limit of calories.
(Say my limit is 1,500 calories a day. I eat 500 calories, so my limit for the rest of the day is now 1,000. But then I exercise and burn 500 calories and it puts my limit back up to 1,500.)

I was under the impression that when you're trying to lose weight, your limit should be 1,500 calories a day, no matter how much you exercise.

What's right here? I'm just confused haha..
