A question about ETF

My dad wants an iPhone and wants to switch me, him, my brother, and my mom to AT&T and get iPhones for all of us seeing that we are paying $280-$290 right now for phones that dont have Internet access/email, etc, and we have 3k minutes and family txting.

however on AT&T we will all have access to thousands of Apps and Internet/email/etc, and also Family txting which comes out to be around 280. The same that we are paying right now for Verizon.

What does my dad have to do to cancel the verizon and when can he do it?

Does it have to be at the end of the billing statement every month? or can he call up right now and terminate it.

BTW we are aware of the ETF. $175 per line. We need to terminate 2 lines seeing that my mom/I are up for upgrades meaning that we are out of contract.

Also if someone can explain to me the $5 for every month that you are in your current contract deductible that would be a big help.

Thanks and sorry I am asking so much

OH one more question:

I know that Verizon and some other carriers allow you to deduct $5 for every month you are in your current contract. So that would be 175-x.

If you were to terminate 2 contracts would both of them get the $5 deductible? or is it only one.

Thanks

Well, you might want to consider speaking with Verizon about new plans they have...because AT&T and Verizon Wireless charge nearly the exact same price for the exact same services...Verizon also has better coverage.

He can call Verizon today and cancel, but if you want to keep your numbers, you need to call and activate service with AT&T first. Then when the number is ported, Verizon is automatically turned off. If you port out, the contract and plan will end nearly immediately. If you choose to disconnect with Verizon Wireless and not port out, you will be forced to keep service and pay for service with Verizon until the last day of the bill cycle...but they can set an arrangement for service to auto disconnect.

The only line that can get the prorated amount of $5 per month off the ETF is the primary account holder. All the other lines on the one account will be forced to pay the full amount.

thanks.

MY dad doesnt really care about which has better coverage. All he wants to know is that the iPhone 3G blows the LG Dare out of the water when it comes to apps and browser speeds.

Plus like you said VZW and AT&T charge the same amount for the same stuff. However you are slightly wrong.

We have a 3k family share plan atm. That includes unlimited family txting and basically thats it. However AT&T has a 2100 plan (seeing that most of us barely use minutes and txt/use internet more) + Better browser speeds on the iPhone + thousands of apps= same as VZW.

So i believe that the iPhone is a much better steal then VZW.

I personally do not have a preference but I really want an iPhone
for the browser/apps

Well, the iPhone has disappointing data speeds. It "looks fast" but 3G coverage isn't available hardly anywhere...also iPhone users report that their phone will randomly disconnect from 3G...even when it's available.

The LG Versa is the fastest 3G phone for Verizon Wireless, at this moment. The Blackberry Storm beats all Blackberry's...if that's the route you wanna go. Then you also gotta deal with AT&T's lousy customer service department.

No, I'm not a Verizon Wireless sales person or an agent. I would recommend Sprint PCS over AT&T. Sprint's data speeds are twice that of AT&T...but not quite as fast as Verizon.

lol like I said. My dad has been taken in by the hype of the iPhone.

However all of the people I know/all of the people my dad know have had no problems and say that their iPhone is the best thing that ever happened to them.

We are not really into electronics to the point that we will choose one provider over another based on better coverage or data speeds.

As long as it gets us there in the time we think it will we are fine.

Exactly what phones and/or plan do you have with VZW that doesn't allow you to access the internet? I can understand if you guys just want the iPhone, but if that's the case just say that. I say this because many VZW phones can access the internet, email, etc.

That sounds like an extreme amount of minutes, but, then again, everyone has their own needs. Either that or you folks need to regulate how much you talk. I have a family plan (5 lines) and we never use more than 1400 minutes. Currently we have 700 minutes and we're struggling to use that much a month (M2M, 7pm nights, and more texting than talking is the likely the reason).

Again, I am not sure what plan/phones you have but many VZW phones have access to apps, internet, e-mail, etc. If you are talking about apps specific to the iPhone, they are not free; if you buy them, you will spend a lot more than $280 a month.

He can do it anytime, as long as he's willing to pay the ETF.

A contract is for 24 months, so depending on how many months you have left, subtract that number from 24 and multiply the answer by $5. That will tell you how much the ETF is for each line. This applies only to those lines still in contract.

As to moving to AT&T, just make sure that they have the quality of service you and you family want/expect. Also, make sure most of the people you talk to are not on VZW or other carriers, because then you'll burn through those minutes really fast with AT&T. And remember, rollover only exists if you don't use all your minutes, so if you burn through your minutes it will be as if you don't have rollover anyway.

As I suspected.

While this may be true, I know people who have poor service yet love the phone, features, or plan so much that they could careless. It's really about individual preference, not what other people like.

If that's the case, then why switch at all?

We have the 3k familyplan. Its not that our phones cannot access the internet. We do not want to pay an extra $15 a month for each line. That would be $60 more, so we would end up at around 340 a month.

With the iPhone its 280. And thats with unlimited data and everything

You guys just need to change your plan.

VZW’s connect/premium plans include almost everything and also have their new "Friends and Family" feature. With the "Friends and Family" feature you are allowed to call 10 specific numbers of your choosing (on any carrier, including landlines) for free, which would reduce the amount of minutes you use every month. And this is true for every plan with 1400 minutes or more. You never know, with "Friends and Family" you might be able to go to a cheaper plan, because you might not need 3000 minutes.

Anyway a premium plan with 3000 minutes for 4 lines is $279.97 before taxes/fees. With the premium plan you get the following:
• Unlimited Text, Picture, Video & Instant Messaging
• Mobile Email
• VCAST VPak
• VZ Navigator
• Unlimited Mobile Web
• Unlimited calling to all 80 million Verizon Wireless customers
• Unlimited Night & Weekend Minutes
• No Domestic Long Distance Charges

Their connect plan with 3000 minutes for 4 lines is $239.97 before taxes/fees and includes the following:
• Unlimited Text, Picture, Video & Instant Messaging
• Mobile Email
• Unlimited Data for Mobile Web and Get it Now/Media Center
• Unlimited calling to all 80 million Verizon Wireless customers
• Unlimited Night & Weekend Minutes
• No Domestic Long Distance Charges

About the only drawback with the the above plans is that you are limited to non-smartphones (including Blackberry devices)

Still, you could get a select plan with 1400 minutes or more and add smartphones or Blackberry devices and still come out to the $280. It really depends on what you want, but I think you guys really need to consider a new plan, because with the "Friends and Family" feature you could potentially reduce your monthly minutes by half and thus go with a cheaper plan. AT&T does not have a similar feature. Strangely, I'm an AT&T customer saying all this, but truth is truth.

Also, if you like a nice, VERSATILE device, maybe you should check out the LG Versa before going to the iPhone.

The iPhone has mixed opinions, depending on the phone.

I personally use the LG Versa which includes a lot more than the iPhone. It's mobile web is better than any phone (except a blackberry) I have ever seen.

It also has detachable modules, like a QWERTY keyboard to make your experience even better. http://vzw.com/versa.

my dad wants an iPhone because its an iPhone.

Plus the 3g Speed is better then most VZW phones. other then the storm and the versa and probably some others
