If your annular is torn or worse ruptured, does that mean the nucleus is leaking out all the time gradually and later make the disc look dark and narrow in the MRI? Thanks

Good question, but I don't think so. When I first realized I had annular tears that were torn all the way through, I thought, "Holy cow, so the nucleus must be leaking out so fast it'll all be gone soon!" But the real fact of the matter is that the nucleus is much thicker than we imagine. So it's more of a solid than a liquid. Therefore, it doesn't really leak out much, if at all. So based on that knowledge, I would say your disc space narrowing is probably NOT resulting from your annular tear. This is pure speculation; I am not a doctor; these are just my thoughts. -Beth
