A Q about good character checks for school?

My daughter is in kinder and is about to start tadpole swimming lessons through the school, the school requires a good character check from the police, I completley understand the need to protect children from sexual predators and the like, but I have a couple of convictions for theft on my record, I have applied for the check anyway because it is so that I can go into the changerooms and help my little girl change into her swimmers and school clothes, I am hoping that because the convictions aren't related to any crimes against children that the school will allow me to assist my daughter in the change rooms. I am not going to be handling money or any thing will my record prevent me from helping out? If I am not allowed to help in the changerooms with the other mums will everyone think I am a pedophile? The thought of that makes me feel physically sick, have my past mistakes paved the way for my little girl having to pay for my poor judgment for the rest of her school days? I am no longer the person I once was, and I don't want her to be judged or excluded and I don't want her to be the only child in her class who's mummy can't help her change out of her swimmers, what do I do if I am not able to help, I feel I will be forced into telling all the other mums about my crappy past (it is crappy, and I have worked hard on myself to put it waaay behind me for my childrens sake) so that they don't think I am a child molester? Like I said I am making myself physically ill worrying about it, I don't know what to do.
