A problem with my 1988 cadillac?

I own a 1988 fleetwood brougham cadillac, 5.0L V8
I've had some problems with it, but i've gotten them fixed. No one seems to be able to help me. It began making a strange noise yesterday evening.
It only happens when I'm in reverse and drive. When i'm in drive, it only lasts up to a certain speed, then it goes away so everytime i'm at a stop light, i put it in neutral and it stops the noise.
the noise sounded, to me, like a belt against another, but that's not it. Another explanation would be like a remote control toy car going really fast. We think it might have something to do with my transmission and the fluid not being filtered properly.
Can anybody help...PLEASE??!! i need this car to last me more time, i have to get back and forth from college somehow

Take the transmission filter out , put a new one in, and put a good thick transmission fluid in. Now, you want to look at your old transmission filter and see if you can see any type of metal shavings in it. If there are then your tranny is going. I would just drive it until it goes!
