I'm working on my summer homework for A.P. U.S. History, and I need help with one of the short answer questions.
Are the differences between Latin America and North America due primarily to the differences between the respective Indian societies that existed in the two places, or to the disparity between the Spanish and English culture? What would have happened if the English had conquered densely settled Mexico and Peru, and the Spanish had settled more thinly populated North America?
I believe that the difference between the cultures in North and Latin America today are due to the differences between the English and Spanish settlers, but I'm not sure how to really phrase my answer or answer the second part of the question. I honestly can't imagine what North America would be like if the Spanish had conquered it, or Latin America if the English had conquered. Help??
