A Nokia alternative to the Razr v3 ?

W/ Cingular...need a new phone (gsm). Was going to go w/ the Razr v3...Then read about the Razr v3i. Looks like a better phone / better camera quality etc... However not yet available here in the US. Don't need a phone for music options so that's not important to me...Just sound, reception and general reliability. (if it looks cool that's ok too).

Question is can anyone advise if there are other options I should consider?

Some say Do Not go w/ Moto. Is there a Nokia that's working well for people?...ie: A Razr alternative ?

Until I activate I use an old school Nokia 2260 (hee hee) w/ a digital plan. Works fine, but less and less dig. towers = dropped calls and poor reception outside the city (Philly).

It sounds like you're looking for a clamshell nokia. The thinnest one I can find is the Nokia 6131.

Both phones have the same quality camera (1.3 Megapixel) and the same battery life (About 3 1/2 hours talk time).

The Nokia is actually not extremely thin compared to the RAZR (20mm vs 13.9mm), but as far as length vs width, it's actually smaller; and as far as wieght, nearly identical to the RAZR... and 20mm is thin enough anyway as far as flip phones go. Both internal and external screens are better than the RAZR's, with both a sharper resolution and more colors. The biggest advantage the Nokia has over the RAZR is EDGE for high-speed internet - very helpful if you browse the internet with your phone, like I do. The RAZR does not have EDGE, it relies on oldschool GPRS.

And yes, I am comparing the Nokia here with the V3i, not the V3. Hope I could have been of help.

Would you advise waiting a little longer to get the (still un available in my area-Philly) v3i ? That is, if I go w/ Moto over the Nokia, which I'm still not sure about.

Also, It doesn't have to be a clam shell type. I usualy use an earbud anyway...so looks should be secoundary.
 
If you are choosing between V3 and V3i, definetly wait for the V3i, or order it from the internet, it shouldn't be hard to find at all and is available on many websites, however there will be a substantial price difference between the V3 and V3i.

If you are not concerned with looks, what are you concerned with? I'm not sure what sort of attributes you are looking for, when you asked for a Nokia brand RAZR alternative, I assumed you wanted a thin clamshell phone made by Nokia.

What do you want out of your phone? MP3 player? Good camera? High-speed internet? Slim form factor? Massive battery? I can better make a reccomendation if I know exactly what you're looking for, it's unclear right now. Also, a price-range would be helpful.
 
Slim - good audio (sending and recieving), and a decent (above 1 megapixel) camera would be good for me. Battery life is somewhat of a consideration.

Really not concerned w/ mp3 player or internet abilities.

Priced around the v3 ballpark or little more. if I could find a v3i that would work w/ my cingular plan I'd probably just pay and go w/ it, But I've heard someone say they got one from ebay and it was not yet compatable w/ cingular...at least on the east coast here. ?

I'd reccomend the Sony Ericsson k510. It's a very compact (size and wieght-wize) bar-style phone. The user-interface is very fast, responding as soon as any of the buttons are pressed, no annoying lag time. The 1.3 megapixel camera is very good. It's lithium-polymer battery is above average, with 360 hours standby time and 6 hours talk-time. It has a good web browser in case you ever care to check the internet, but no high-speed EDGE. Also has bluetooth for accessories, such as a wireless headset for very clear communication. Available now for about 150 US dollars.
 
Hmmm, Thanks...you got me thinking. Looks like a nice phone. The k750 looks nice as well. I'm interested to know more about them.

The camera quality seems good, better than the slvr L7 which is the other one I'm considering.
 
The K750 is a great phone. 2 MP camera, expandable memory, and MP3 playback. But be cautious if you plan on buying this phone. Being in the US, 850/1900Mhz is used. But 850 is predominantly used. The K750 uses GSM 900/1800/1900. If you're using this phone and 850 is used primarily in your area, more than half the time your calls are going to break up and people are going to ask you to repaeat yourself over and over. It becomes a pain, and then your phone become a glorified paper weight. It would be recommended that you look up coverage in your area, as well as call customer support. I know because I had a K750/W800. Also, I would get people complaining that their reception is just horrible. Then when I find out that their phone was bought from overseas and is 900/1800/1900...not a whole lot can be done because it's not carried by a provider, and it's not under warranty. Yeah, it does have 1900, but what's the use if your calls are spotty at best. If you want to get an international phone, get one that's quadband.
